Burleigh Junior Club Kicks Off and Round 1 of the Burleigh Challenger Sees Record Entries with 38

A busy Friday at Fradgley Hall last night as our Junior club began with 11 students and a lecture from junior coaches Michael Goodman and Ben Skinner. It was great to see the juniors helping each other after their tournament rounds and all had a great afternoon. Juniors can still join the Term 1, 8 week session 5-6:30, if interested at a pro-rata rate. Please contact Matt Smith at goldcoastchess@gmail.com or 0406402180 if you'd like to sign up for the Junior Club Term 1 Program from next week.

A few of the juniors also joined in the Burleigh Challenger FIDE/ACF/QJ event following their Junior Club session. We had 38 entrants which is a new club record for our major classical events. If you'd like to join us for Round 2 and have a 1/2 point bye for Round 1 entries are still open online.

The only upset in Round 1 was new club junior, Summer Wang earning a draw with club legend Oleg Kitikov in a match that was the longest on the night. It was great to see many new faces at the club and we wish all the new players and club veterans much success in the event. Round 1 Results

Join In the Event for Round 2!!
