The Coomera Mid Winter Rapid Chess Tournament brought together a strong and diverse field of players for an exciting 2 weeks of rapid chess. Over six intense rounds, competitors battled it out for top honours, with sharp tactics, surprising upsets, and fighting spirit on full display.
Tournament Highlights
Congratulations to Oleg Kitikov, who dominated the field with a near-perfect score of 5.5/6. Oleg’s impressive run included wins over several top seeds, cementing his position as the clear champion. Leading the tournament in the final round he took a quick draw against fourth-place finisher Slavko Kojic, to secure the win and have a early night.
Luka Hart also had a stellar performance, scoring 5/6 and taking second place. Luka’s only loss came against the unstoppable Oleg, but he bounced back with strong wins, including a decisive last-round victory against Lyndon Cerfonteyn.
The third-place honours went to Shivam Karthikeyan, who continues to make rapid improvement. With a rating of just 1001, Shivam scored 3.5 points and claimed some impressive wins.
Fourth place was secured by Slavko Kojic (3.5/6), whose steady play and resilience kept him in the top standings.
